Disney Tag

Hey

You may know or not but I am a big fan of anything Disney.  When I was little I especially loved watching all the Disney animated movies that involved princesses, in fact I had a hard time in picking which princesses dress I liked the most.  I saw this tag done on Laura's blog and I really loved her answers and the questions so thought I'd have a go.

Favourite Disney Film?
This is so hard! Like Laura I love Anastasia buuuuut it's not a Disney movie so I'll have to go with The Little Mermaid. It was pretty much the Disney film I watched the most as a child, we had it on video (remember video) so I watched numerous times.

Favourite Disney Princess?
Hmm again such a hard question but I'll have to with Ariel. I loved the fact she was a mermaid and I remember how I wished I had her hair, the colour and the fact it looked AMAZING both in and out of the water.  Also helped that she had the best looking Prince ;D

Aurora or Cinderella?
I never really watched Cinderella that much as a child but we did have Sleeping Beauty on video so I'm going to go with Aurora.  I loved everything about her, her amazing golden hair, the fact she lived with fairies the list goes on. I also remember constantly being undecided whether I loved her dress blue or pink, it would change depending what my favourite colour was.

 Hercules or Tarzan
Can't say I remember watching either of them but I'll go with Tarzan as I think it would be cool living in the jungle and flying around.  But I do like Hercules as well, especially since he is a part of Greek Mythology which is something I am very interested in.

Lizzie Maguire or Raven Baxter?
I can't really remember watching any Raven Baxter so Lizzie Maguire it is. I loved how relatable she was, going through teen girl issues like everybody else.

Favourite Disney Song?
This is easy, as I'm writing this the song is playing in my head and is one of the few songs off Disney movies that I remember.  It's "Under the Sea" from the Little Mermaid and is so catchy that you can't help singing along to.

Which Disney character would be your best friend?
The Genie from Aladdin, he was one of my favourite characters from the movie (behind Princess Jasmine) as he was funny, did great impressions and of course because he was a genie.

Which Disney character would be your pet?
I don't know if he is a pet but I'll go with Meeko the Racoon from Pocahontas.  Pocahontas was another movie I really loved and Meeko was one of the more humours character and always tried to cheer her up. He was also pretty cute as well.

Have you ever been to Disneyland?
No unfortunately, but would love to one day. I'll probably feel like I'll be a kid in candy store ;)

Hope you all enjoyed this post and if you want to do this tag feel free to :D  Yesterday I decided to change the blog's URL to http://artedellamoda.blogspot.co.nz/ as I wanted it to be consistent with it's name, hope this doesn't confuse anybody :)

My Favourite Things #8

No More Exams!
I know I've mentioned this in Wednesday's post but I am officially done for the semester! The fact that I no longer have to spend my time writing notes and planning exam essays is a huge relief.  I've gotten so use to it now that during the day I often feel that I should be studying then I remember I don't have to anymore!  Now I can spend my time more productively like reading blog posts and watching YouTube. That's productive right?

Sims 2
Another thing I can now do and not feel guilty about is play pretty much my favourite game, Sims.  I can spend so much time playing it that it's kind of embarrassing but it's my addiction.  My parents got me Sims 3 for Christmas a couple of years ago but I didn't really like it that much, I prefer Sims 2. I don't really know why, probably because I'm so use to Sims 2 that the next one was too different.

Tumblr
I've had Tumblr for a while but I haven't really used it as much. This all changed today when I decided to get into it. I basically just went on a massive re-blogging spree from French Interior Design to Disney Princesses. I might put a link to it on the blog, maybe, if you do want a link let me know. I think I'll be spending the rest of the day on it, let the new obsession begin.

This is just one of many images I re-blogged. It's Marie Antoinette's bedroom at Versailles and I think I'm in love.

Hope you all enjoyed this post :) Have a great weekend.

Forgery

Hey

I'm baccccck! Exams are finally over which is relief, it's pretty much one of the most stressful things I've ever gone through, proving for two hours that you've learnt something. Anyway now that I'm free I got to find things to do and one of them will be blogging and trying to make the blog look better.

Today's post is on one of the topics I wrote about in my exam yesterday. I actually find the field of forgery very interesting and find it amusing how people could believe a painting, especially the works I'm writing about, could be genuine.

Han van Meergeren was a Dutch forger who painted works and signed them as that of Vermeer.  He got away with it as Vermeer does not have a lot of surviving works, he 'filled in the gaps' of the artists body of work and created a new area of religious works in which there was no genuine example of.

What I find particularly interesting is that Meergeren painted in his own style, with a bit of Caravaggio mixed in.

With his paintings he managed to fool the most expert of art scholars and critics who declared the works to be the finest of Vermeer's work.  This is what I amusing as while his work is good when compared to actual Vermeer's it's clear how different they are.

These are authentic Vermeer's, his most famous being Girl with a Pearl Earring.  It is clear when comparing the works how different the works are with the style of the figure being totally different particularly their faces.  Meergeren was only got caught when the police were tracing the provenance of a painting owned by a high ranked Nazi officer back to him where he was arrested and later confessed to have painted it himself.

Hope you all enjoyed this post :D

Elizabeth Arden Makeup Remover

Hey

As mentioned in Monday's post I went to a clearance sale on Saturday and picked up a few things.  One of the other things I picked up was some makeup remover by Elizabeth Arden, my aunt swears by it and was nice enough to get me a bottle. I have never really used or had any makeup remover before so this was a first and was excited as I find it very difficult to take off my makeup at the end of the day.

OMG this stuff is amazing. Literally. As I said before this is the first remover I've used so I have no prior experience but this stuff is gold.  This can take off both lip and eye makeup which is great.  The remover looks like liquid in the bottle but once it's on my skin it's almost like a gel mask.  You don't need too much product on as it easily spreads all over your face.

From the first swipe makeup was coming off easily and was able to remove my Collection Cosmetics Mascara which is reaaally hard to get off.  It doesn't leave my skin dry, as I said it feels gel like on my face, and when I go to rise it off OMG my face feels amazing, so silky smooth like I've had nothing on all day.  I haven't had it for that long but this is pretty much my new favourite thing.

Hope you all enjoyed this post :D There will be no posts on Friday or next Monday as I have exams :( but after Tuesday I'll be free as bird recovering from all the stress.

Perfume Haul

Hey

Hope you all had a good weekend, I hoped to have a done a lot of studying buuuuuut I only managed to do some on Sunday.  I had a good reason though (I think) my sisters school ball was on Saturday night and for some reason the pre ball was at our house, so I spent the day helping Mum get everything ready for the 30 odd teenagers and their parents who crammed into our house. It was fun though and was weird but nice seeing my sister all dressed up and in a dress, pretty much all she wears is shorts and vans.

On Saturday I took a break from helping and went with my aunts to this clearance sale out in Highbrook.  Most of the cosmetics were Elizabeth Arden but there were a variety of perfumes and I couldn't help myself and got some.

I'm not good at describing scents so I'll just trust what the "official" description says.  I also love the design of the bottles, especially the Juicy Couture one.  When I finish a bottle I put them on my bookshelf as decorations.

Left - Britney Spears, Curious
Notes of white flowers surrounded with vanilla and musk nuances, pear and magnolia, tuberose, jasmine and pink cyclamen, musk, vanilla and precious woods.

I think this was one of the first 'proper' perfumes I ever got and to this day it's still one of my favourites.  I love this scent, it's sweet but not sickly and is not too strong like the Fantasy fragrances.

Centre - Viva La Juicy, Juicy Couture
Topnote: Wild Berries, Mandarin
Midnote: Honeysuckle, Gardenia, Jasmine
Drydown: Amber, Caramel, Vanilla, Sandalwood, Praline

My Mum got this for her birthday and I really loved how it smelled.  There were two Viva La Juicy perfumes at the sale and while they both smelled amazing I went with this one.

Right - Britney Spears, Radiance
Notes of berries, tuberose, jasmine, orange blossom, iris and musk.

This is one of the other Britney scents which I love. It's musky like Curious but is a little more heavier if that makes any sense at all.  The scent is a little more intense as well but too much that it puts me off.

Hope you all enjoyed this post :D I got one other thing from the sale which will be on Wednesday's post. I've only used it once but so far it's amazing.

My Favorite Things #7

Hey

It's the end of the week once again and as I'm writing this I'm putting off having to study :/  I know I should but once I start I get easily distracted by other things.... oh well.

Bloglovin'
During the last few weeks of the semester I was too occupied with assignments to be able to read posts from my favourite blogs.  Bloglovin' is amazing as all the posts are there in one place and you know which ones you haven't read yet and the newest ones are at the very top.  Slowly but surely I am working my way through them all and catching up on all that I have missed.

The Rain
Over the past couple of days the weather has not been that amazing especially compared to today which is clear blue skies.  I've spent the whole week at home trying to study which is why the rain hasn't annoyed me as much (if I was out and about it would be another story).  I especially love it when it rains at night.  I've always loved the sound of it hitting the roof ever since I was a child and find the sound almost calming and prefer it to the almost dead silence of night.

Bright Lipstick
As I've said I've been home all week so I couldn't really be bothered putting on make up.  I do however like to just put on lipstick.  Putting some on especially a bright colour instantly puts me in a good mood and I feel I can take on anything especially exam study (oh the power of lipstick).

So far this week I've worn two colours that kind of made me look glamorous in my 'home' clothes i.e. leggings and a jumper.

Left: NYX Chaos  Right: Lime Crime Centrifuchsia

Hope you all enjoyed this post and have a great weekend! I'm off to put on some lipstick and try to study ;D

Lost Creavtivity

Hey

Like with Monday's post this one is going down the arty route only this time it's art that I have created myself...  This was inspired by Caitlin from Thistle & Tea and her post about things she wanted to achieve.  One of them was to be more creative which got me thinking about how creative I am.

When I was younger I was very creative, I used to create short stories about things children write about (I seem to remember one about three red balls and one wasn't played with as much) and I absolutely loved to paint.  My parents would get me paint and canvases and I would be happy sitting on the floor and creating whatever I had in my head.  These days however most of my time is spent writing about artists than actually being one and whenever I consider creating something I'm at a loss as what to do.

The last one looks like an homage to Jackson Pollack before I even knew who he was.  As you can see I love colour and squares apparently and they all kind of look like modern art (?) When I was younger I always wanted to be able to create realistic works of figures buuuuuuut I quickly discovered I'm not that good at people hence why all the abstract art you see.  With any luck maybe seeing these will kick start my creativity once again, the most creative thing I've done lately is this blog so hopefully I'm moving in the right direction.

Hope you enjoyed this post :D

Art Inspiration - Minimalism

Hey

I'm officially on study break as of now which means spending much of my time at home trying to force myself to study :/ But it also means I kind of have more time for blogging which I will probably more likely do when procrastinating from studying...

This post is a another little inspiration post thing mixed in with Art History.  Minimalism is a modern art movement I learnt about last semester and is one of the few aspects of modern art I liked and wasn't disturbed by.

Dan Flavin, "Pink out of a corner - to Jasper Johns 1963"

Kosuth, "A Four Color Sentence"

Carl Andre, "Lever" 1966

Richard Serra "Te Tuhirangi Contour"

These are just a few examples, I love how simple they are and how they interact with the environment around them especially with the last image in which the sculpture changes as you move around it.  I particularly like the works that incorporate light and colour, it always fascinates me how something so simple can be really stunning.

Hope you all enjoyed this post :D

My Favourite Things #6

Hey

Today is my last day of uni for the semester YAY which means no more insanely early mornings where it's dark and cold.  I do have exams to study for buuuuuut I'm not really going to stress about it yet....

Collection Cosmetics Does it all 5 in 1 Mascara
I've mentioned before that I have really wanted to try this out, I've heard good things about it and it's not too expensive which is a plus.  I've needed a new mascara for a while now, my old was not cutting it and was getting annoying to apply.  First off I really love the wand, the bristles are short so there's no hassle in getting clumpy pieces attached and makes it so much easier to apply to the bottom lashes.  The mascara does make my lashes look longer and thanks to the wand I don't get those annoying clumps.

TV On Demand Apps
With my laptop out of commission for a couple of days I've had to find some other stuff to occupy my time.  I had some TV shows I wanted to catch up so got the TVNZ On Demand app on my tablet and basically spent the weekend lying in bed watching shows (so cool).  I won't lie, it was the best thing ever and was pretty much the highlight of my weekend.

Beauty Blogs
Beauty blogs are my guilty pleasure. Every time I read a post I always want to add to my list of beauty items I want, my list is pretty long and will keep growing until I get my hands on some money and go crazy.  I have a separate list for all the MAC products I want so hopefully soon I'll get some of my first MAC products :D

I have quite a number of beauty blogs that I always read, I love Vivianna Does Makeup and Lily Pebbles especially their hauls and reviews and I especially love their favourites in particular if it's to do with lipstick.  There are also a number of New Zealand beauty blogs I love such as Nana Wintour, Cassandra Myee and of course Shaaanxo.  I love reading these blogs as it's from a New Zealand perspective and they blog about products that I'm able to get either in shop or online.  I also love to live vicariously through them especially Shaaanxo, I love her videos and whether they're tutorials or hauls you bet I want everything she uses.

Hope you all enjoyed this post. I would love to know what beauty blogs you love, I always like finding new blogs to read :D

Pieter Bruegel - The Battle Between Carnival and Lent

Hey

It's been quite a while since I've done an Art History post, mostly because I've had a number of essays to do in which I've had to write a lot about paintings so writing blog posts about them was the last thing I wanted to do.  This post is inspired by a painting which I took a liking to a while ago and I thought it was interesting enough for me to write this post.

The painting is a bit overwhelming when you first look at it with there being a number of things going on at once but each scene is very interesting.

Carnival was the time of over indulgence where people could eat whatever they wanted, drink, play games as well as swap gender roles.  Lent on the other hand, which occurred straight after, was the exact opposite with it being a time of restraint.  The figures representing Carnival and Lent are in the immediate foreground and are having a mock battle.  Each figure is surrounded by items that are indicative of the event; Carnival with meat and Lent with bread.  The painting is split in the middle with the activities of Carnival on the left and Lent on the right which give an insight to traditions of the contemporary society.  On the left different plays are being performed by actors and people are spilling out of pubs. On the right however people are coming out of church with beggars asking for money and children playing games.  These are just some of the scenes that Bruegel excelled in depicting.

What I like about this painting is while it is a representation of contemporary 16th century society it is also a bit nonsensical and humorous with how the figures are portrayed as actors performing.

Hope you all enjoyed this post

Winter Clean

Hey

This weekend has be the first where I could do anything I wanted as I have no more assignments to do for the semester YAS.  On Saturday I was in a cleaning mood so I cleaned my room including behind my dresser which was not a pretty sight.  I also cleaned my desk where my laptop is and where I basically do all my blogging and uni work.

This is the after, I forgot to do a before but I assure you it was a complete mess.  I don't know about anyone else but when a space is messy I somehow don't think clearly and it is very annoying when I can't find anything.  Now everything is all ordered and I can actually see the desk and there is no random pieces of paper anywhere.  From doing all the cleaning I managed to find stuff I thought I lost ages ago which is awesome as it was a bit of mystery as to where they went to...

Usually my laptop would be here but for some reason it won't log in which is very annoying as I pretty much spend most of my time on it so I've had to find other things to do, hence the clean.

Hope you all enjoyed this post
