June Favourites

As June comes to a close I couldn't forgo my monthly favourites post. I actually remembered to jot some things done so had to go through with actually writing a post. We're over half way through the year which is unbelievable to think about. It doesn't really feel like it. My days just seem to blur together and with no differentiation in my life, it's all the same. There's actually quite a number of things I've been loving this month and includes a couple that only occurred within the last couple of days.

Melodrama

Lorde released her new album a few weeks ago and I've been loving it. I actually like all of the songs on the album which is very rare for me and can't stop listening. My favourites are Sober, Homemade Dynamite, Sober II (Melodrama), The Louvre & Green Light.

Versailles

I briefly mentioned this in my last post and is my latest obsession. The show follows Louis XIV and starts around the time where he turns Versailles into a palace and makes it the centre of his power and rule. The costumes are stunning and some scenes are actually filmed at Versailles which is cool. I think my favourite character would have to be Philippe, the king's brother. He's the best.

Why Millenials Move Overseas

Over June Britney uploaded a three-part series which looks into why millennials move overseas. She interviews her friends who have moved, ones that haven't as well as figuring out if it is something that is for her. I loved this series as it is something that I've been thinking about as well. A friend of mine moved to Canada to work for a couple of years or so and since she told me I started to wonder why I wasn't planning on doing anything. This feeling happens to me a lot, I see people doing stuff which in turn makes me feel bad about not doing it. It's something I want to do but not yet. You can watch her videos here. 

The Body Laid Bare

I only went and saw this yesterday so it is somewhat fresh in my mind. The artworks in the exhibition are from the Tate in London, it explores the way artists have depicted the human form from the 1700s to the 2000s. The exhibition is laid out chronologically so you start out with the earliest artworks and from room to room you move through time. I loved this exhibition, as an art history student it felt familiar and like home walking around and examining the art. I think overall I liked the first room with the earliest art the most, the works were more similar to that of the Renaissance period which is my main area of interest. I also loved seeing art from artists I studied back in high school in the flesh. It was a somewhat surreal experience to be able to see a Matisse, Picasso, de Chirico & Max Ernst in person. Special mention also to Auguste Rodin's The Kiss which was breathtaking. The exhibition is on until July 16 at the Auckland Art Gallery.

Watercolours

Painting is something I've wanted to get back into for a while and finally did it. At the moment I'm really interested in watercolours and how you can affect the art just by adding more water. I'm a little rusty so I'm going to try not get too discouraged with how average I am and keep at it.
